Two-player card games on one iPhone Duo: fold to pass
Card Table lets two people play Gin Rummy or Cribbage on one iPhone Duo. Half-fold the phone and only the raised half shows your hand, so the person across the table can't see it. When your turn is over, fold it shut and pass it. On any other iPhone or iPad, a cover screen hides each hand until the next player is ready.
A two-player card game on one phone has a single problem to solve: your opponent must not see your hand. Most games do it with a cover screen that you tap past each turn. On iPhone Duo, Apple’s foldable iPhone, Card Table uses the fold instead. You half-fold the phone so only the raised half shows your cards, and fold it shut when you pass it across the table.
Why the hand has to stay hidden
In both games Card Table plays, most of the skill is in what you keep and what you throw away, and that only works if the other player is guessing.
- In Gin Rummy, your opponent watches which cards you take from the discard pile to work out the sets and runs you are building, and holds back the cards you need. If they could see your hand there would be nothing to work out. The Gin Rummy rules guide covers melds and deadwood.
- In Cribbage, you each put 2 cards in the crib before play starts. The dealer wants points in it and the other player doesn’t, so a peek at the dealer’s 6 cards gives the whole choice away. Counting a Cribbage hand shows where those points come from.
Playing on iPhone Duo
- Start a two-player game of Gin Rummy or Cribbage in Card Table.
- Half-fold iPhone Duo, like a small laptop, with the raised half facing the player whose turn it is. Only that half shows the hand.
- Play your turn: draw and discard in Gin Rummy, or lay a card in Cribbage.
- Fold the phone shut and pass it over. The other player opens it to their own hand.
Sitting across a table works best. The raised half faces one player and its back faces the other. At the end of each hand, both hands are laid out and counted for both players to check.
Playing on any other iPhone or iPad
It works without the fold too. Play your turn and pass the phone. A cover screen hides your hand until the next player taps to show theirs. It takes one tap more than folding, and it is the same game. Card Table needs iOS 27 or later. Two-player games are free and have no ads.
Other games made for the fold
Card Table is one of three Comet Barn games optimized for iPhone Duo. Tap Higher Number spreads its board sideways across the inner display, and in Quarter Turn the board fills the screen, folded or open. The iPhone Duo games page compares all three.
Questions
- Can two people play Gin Rummy on one iPhone?
- Yes. In Card Table, two players share one iPhone or iPad and pass it between turns. A cover screen hides each hand until the next player is ready, and two-player games are free.
- How does fold to pass work on iPhone Duo?
- Half-fold iPhone Duo and Card Table shows your hand only on the raised half, which faces you. At the end of your turn you fold it shut and hand it over, and the other player opens it to their own hand.
- Do I need an iPhone Duo to play Card Table with a friend?
- No. Two players can share any iPhone or iPad that runs iOS 27 or later. iPhone Duo adds the fold: the phone itself hides your hand, so there is no cover screen to tap through.
